It was great to see Congresswoman Val Hoyle at the Lincoln County Democrats Neighborhood Captains meeting in Lincoln City last night. She spoke about the important work we do on the ground connecting with our neighbors, her opposition to the war and her refusal to vote to fund it, and how vote by mail supports free and fair elections. She's headed back to Washington, DC today.
I worked alongside Val Hoyle for three years. I saw what it looks like when a federal representative actually shows up for a community — not just at election time, but when the funding was on the line, when the crisis was unfolding, when being present and accountable mattered. She is that person for Lincoln County, and I'm grateful for her endorsement of my campaign.
State Representative David Gomberg explained the necessity of the gas tax to keep our roads and bridges safe. Revenue is down at a time when expenses are up, and ODOT employees are retiring or leaving the agency. He said that on average, the tax would cost each person about $100 per year. Not an insignificant amount — but the alternative is roads and bridges that don't get fixed, snow that doesn't get cleared, and landslides that don't get mitigated. The coast knows what that means. This is something to consider on the May ballot.
Commissioner Walter Chuck (Candidate for Position 3) and Cristin Don(Candidate for Position 2) explained their platforms.
